What sets healthcare apart
Healthcare spaces serve patients with specific needs. Rooms must be easy to clean, quiet where privacy is needed, accessible to everyone and well supplied with power, water, ventilation and data. Many also depend on equipment that cannot be without power or cooling.
Construction in or next to operating facilities adds infection control, noise and dust control, and strict scheduling. Our Director of Health & Safety, Ghilda Gaber, leads safety planning on our sites.
Our own trades on the critical systems
HSM self-performs electrical, led by a Master Electrician, and mechanical (HVAC and plumbing), plus low voltage and security, framing, drywall, ceilings, carpentry, millwork, painting, and doors and hardware. Those are the trades that matter most in a clinic.
In-house engineering, led by Dr. Magdy Istafanous, helps with load calculations and system layout, so design and construction stay aligned.

Planning notes
Regulators, professional colleges and equipment suppliers often have requirements that affect the layout. We recommend confirming these early, since they can influence the lease, the design and the budget. Permits through the municipality and Alberta Safety Codes are part of the process.
HSM can help before the lease is signed, comparing candidate spaces against the systems your practice needs, such as power, ventilation and floor loading.
Cost and schedule
Healthcare projects have budgets that depend on utilities, finishes and equipment support. We give clear, itemized pricing and keep one project manager as your contact. Because most trades are ours, changes during construction are easier to price and schedule.
Our phones and email are answered 24/7/365, so questions about a live project do not wait.
Questions we hear
Can HSM renovate while a clinic stays open?
Often, with phasing, barriers and dust and noise control agreed in advance. It depends on the work and the space.
Do you handle equipment hookups?
We handle the power, plumbing, ventilation and data that equipment needs, and coordinate with equipment suppliers.
