One crew from design to start-up
Mechanical work is often the largest single subcontract on a commercial job, and it is where schedules and budgets slip. At HSM, our own crew does the HVAC work, working alongside our own electricians. That means the unit that arrives on the roof has power waiting for it, and the controls are wired by people who have already talked to the installers.
Our in-house engineering team, directed by Dr. Magdy Istafanous, reviews mechanical designs for fit, capacity and cost before the crew mobilizes.
What the crew covers
Mechanical covers moving and conditioning air and water in a building. We work on new construction, renovations and tenant improvements up to $50,000,000.
- HVAC installation and rooftop units
- Ductwork, ventilation and exhaust
- Heating systems and air conditioning
- Building automation and controls
- Kitchen exhaust hoods
- Energy-efficient retrofits
- Ongoing mechanical maintenance
- Plumbing, which has its own section on this site
Why it matters in Alberta
Our climate asks a lot of mechanical systems. Winter design temperatures are severe, summers can be hot, and air quality and fresh air requirements apply year round. Equipment has to be selected and installed for real conditions, including snow loads, freeze protection and winter start-ups.
We also build in winter. Rooftop crane lifts, startup and balancing are planned around the weather.
What to plan for
Equipment lead times can be long, so decisions on units and controls should happen early. Ceiling space is limited, and ducts, pipes, lights and sprinklers compete for it, which is why we coordinate everything in one place.
Code compliance, permits and inspections under Alberta's Safety Codes system are part of our scope. When the work is done, we test, balance and commission systems and walk you through how they run. Call any time. Phone and email are answered 24/7/365.
