Buildings with purpose
Congregations, charities and community groups often run on volunteers, donations and tight budgets. Their buildings need to be welcoming, safe and affordable to operate. Decisions often involve boards, elders or committees, and timelines depend on fundraising.
We are used to that. We provide clear options and costs, support phased plans, and respect the way each organization makes decisions.
What we build
Our faith and community pages describe each type in more detail.
- Churches, mosques and temples
- Community halls and cultural centres
- Non-profit offices
- Food banks and shelters
- Youth centres and senior centres
- Funeral homes
Self-performed trades save money
For organizations with limited funds, every subcontractor markup counts. HSM's electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, and our mechanical crew for HVAC and plumbing handle two of the largest cost areas in-house. Our interior systems, millwork, painting and door crews cover most of the rest.
That means fewer firms, one schedule and a single team accountable for the result.
Phasing and funding
Many projects are phased as funds come in. We help organizations decide what to build first, what to prepare for later and how to avoid rework. Early budget advice can prevent a design that outgrows the money.
Our offices in Edmonton and St. Albert answer calls and email 24/7/365, and our team can meet with boards and committees at times that suit volunteers.
Reaching us
HSM is based in Edmonton, with a second office in St. Albert, and we have completed more than 1,000 projects. Our project managers will meet your board, committee or leadership to talk through your building and what is realistic.
Questions we hear
Can you build in phases as we raise funds?
Yes. We plan phases so each stage is usable and later stages connect without removing finished work.
