Many uses, one building
A cultural centre may have a hall, classrooms, a library, an exhibition area, a kitchen, offices and outdoor space. Programs vary through the week, and the building has to adapt.
We begin by listening to how the centre is used and how it might grow, then build flexibility into walls, power, lighting and storage.
Stages, sound and light
Performance and presentation spaces need good acoustics, adjustable lighting, rigging points and reliable sound. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, installs power, dimming and stage lighting. Our low voltage team installs audio, video and recording systems.
Our interior systems crew builds acoustic walls and ceilings, and our carpenters and millwork team build stages, counters and display elements.
Exhibition and conservation
Displays and collections have particular needs: stable temperature and humidity, controlled light, secure cases and reliable security. Our mechanical crew installs HVAC and plumbing with these needs in mind, and our in-house engineers coordinate with specialists where required.
Community members often help raise funds, contribute design ideas and volunteer. We keep communication open and prepare presentations and budget updates for committees. Phased construction lets a first stage open while later stages are funded.
Plan for these items
Committees should consider:
- Capacity for events and festivals
- Kitchen and catering needs
- Storage for costumes, instruments and equipment
- Accessibility and washrooms
- Parking and drop-off
Getting started
Tell us about your programs and who they serve. We can help test layouts and budgets, and we can phase construction around events and festivals that matter to your community. Our estimators can also price furniture, signage and audio-visual packages alongside the building work, so the budget is complete.
Questions we hear
Can a cultural centre open in stages?
Yes. We plan phases so a first stage can open and later phases connect without removing finished work.
