Height and structure
Climbing walls load the building in unusual ways. Anchors, ropes and falls put forces on slabs, framing and roof structure. In a tenant improvement, clear height, column spacing and floor load capacity decide what is possible.
Our in-house engineering team, led by Dr. Magdy Istafanous, reviews the structure, and we coordinate with the wall manufacturer so the design meets the building rather than fighting it.
Air, light and noise
Climbers generate heat and chalk dust. Ventilation, filtration and humidity control are important for comfort and for equipment life. Our mechanical crew installs HVAC and plumbing, including showers and washrooms.
Lighting must be bright without glare on the wall. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, designs and installs fixtures, power and controls for open ceilings and tall volumes.
Floors, bouldering and finishes
Bouldering areas need deep, impact-absorbing floors and well-marked fall zones. Padded surfaces, change areas, a front desk and a cafe or lounge complete the build. Our carpenters and millwork team build counters, lockers and benches. Our interior crew handles framing, drywall and ceilings, and our painters finish them in durable coatings.
Security and access control matter, because many gyms run extended hours. Our low voltage team installs cameras and entry systems.
Tenant improvement notes
Many climbing gyms are in industrial or commercial buildings. We can review the building before the lease, including height, power and zoning, so lease negotiation includes realistic construction costs. Permits and fire separation needs should be checked early.
Opening on time
Climbing gyms depend on wall manufacturer lead times, so we confirm delivery and installation dates early and build the schedule around them. Our project managers coordinate the wall installers with our own trades to keep the finish date firm.
Questions we hear
Can any building become a climbing gym?
Not any. Clear height, structure and floor load decide it, which is why we review the space before a lease is signed.
