Large spans, tall rooms
Fieldhouses, courts, training halls and multi-sport buildings have big open volumes. Structure, roof, insulation and air distribution all work harder in a tall space. Heating a large volume efficiently takes careful design.
Our in-house engineering team looks at the whole building, and our mechanical crew installs HVAC and plumbing to match. Destratification, radiant heat and zoning are common tools.
Floors and surfaces
Each sport has its own demands: sprung wood, synthetic turf, rubberized surfaces, padded walls. The substrate, slab flatness and moisture have to be right before the surface goes down, or the floor fails early.
We coordinate slab prep with the surface installer and plan around curing times, which can matter more in winter.
Electrical, lighting and systems
Sports lighting needs even coverage and low glare. Electrical service must handle lighting, scoreboards, sound and often kitchen or retail areas. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, installs it all. Our low voltage team adds cameras, access control and public address systems.
Change rooms, washrooms, concessions and first-aid rooms round out the building. Our interior crew and millwork team build them to stand up to daily use.
Plan for these items
Items worth settling with your design team early:
- Which sports and how many courts or fields
- Spectator capacity and viewing areas
- Netting, wall padding and equipment storage
- Parking, drop-off and loading
- Future expansion
Phasing and budget
Owners sometimes build in stages: shell first, then courts, then amenities. We help plan stages so each one is usable and the next can be added without tearing out finished work. Early estimating from our in-house team keeps each stage on budget.
Questions we hear
Do you build new sports buildings as well as renovations?
Yes, up to $50,000,000. We can help with site selection and budget before design begins.
