What our finishing crew does
HSM's painting and finishes team covers interior and exterior painting, specialty coatings, epoxy and polished concrete floors, wallcoverings, flooring installation, tile, line painting, and touch-up and repaint work.
These are different skills with one thing in common: they depend on the work before them. A great paint job on a poor wall is still a poor wall. Because the same company frames, boards, wires and finishes the space, problems are caught while they are still easy to fix.

Why self-performing helps finishes
Finishing trades are most often blamed for problems they did not cause: a dent from a ladder, a stain from a leak, dust from a neighbouring trade. When all those trades work for HSM, the foreman can control the order of work and protect finished surfaces.
Our drywall crew and painters agree on the finish level together. Our electricians install devices and plates at the right moment, so painters are not cutting around bare boxes. Our carpenters coordinate trim and millwork finishes with the painters so stains and paints match.
What to plan for
Paint and coatings depend on conditions. Temperature, humidity and surface moisture all affect how they cure. In Alberta, winter work requires heated, ventilated space, and some exterior and floor coatings can only be applied in certain temperature ranges.
Colour and product selections should be made early. Specialty coatings, wallcoverings and tile can have long lead times, and they often need approved samples.
Finally, plan for the end of the project. Touch-ups after move-in furniture, equipment and signage are normal, and we build that into the schedule and offer repaint services after handover.
Questions we hear
Does HSM paint with its own staff?
Yes. Painting and finishes are part of the work HSM performs with its own crews, alongside electrical, mechanical, interior systems, carpentry and doors.
