Self-performed trades

Low Voltage and Security

Low voltage and security systems are self-performed by HSM. Our own team installs the cameras, access control, cabling and audio-visual systems that make a building work day to day.

Low Voltage and Security

Led by Adam Mason

Adam Mason is our Low Voltage Systems Manager. His team covers alarms, audio-visual, sound masking and surveillance, along with the data cabling that carries them. They work on HSM projects alongside our electricians, mechanical crew and interior systems team.

Low voltage is often left to the end of a job and suffers for it. When it is part of the same schedule and drawings as everything else, conduits are in the right place, ceilings have the right access and power is ready when devices arrive.

What the team covers

  • Security cameras and surveillance
  • Access control and door hardware integration
  • Intrusion alarms
  • Structured cabling and Wi-Fi networks
  • Audio-visual systems and sound masking
  • Digital signage
  • Intercoms
  • Nurse call systems for care settings

Part of our turn-key offering

After construction, many clients want one team to keep supporting the building. HSM's turn-key services include security systems, digital signage and computer networks, so the people who installed your systems are the ones to call when something needs attention.

Our in-house engineering group, directed by Dr. Magdy Istafanous, helps size systems and review network and power needs.

What to plan for

Decide early what the building needs to do. Who needs to get in, what needs to be recorded, how staff will connect and what screens or sound the spaces require. Equipment can then be located while walls are still open.

Systems that connect to networks need planning for security and for ongoing support. We discuss passwords, access and who will manage each system.

Door hardware ties closely to access control. Our crews install doors and hardware as well, so locks, readers and power supplies are coordinated. Call any time. Phone and email are answered 24/7/365.

Because low voltage shares pathways and ceiling space with electrical, we plan them together from the first drawing.
