Our carpentry and millwork capability
HSM keeps carpenters on staff, and our project management team includes Andreas Farini, a journeyman carpenter and certified project manager. That hands-on background shows in how we plan and review the work.
Millwork covers a wide range: custom casework, reception desks, cabinetry, countertops, shelving, feature walls, wall cladding, trim and finish carpentry. Some pieces are built to order by our crew, and some are fabricated by specialty shops and installed and finished by us. Either way, one team is accountable for how the piece fits the room.

Why in-house matters for millwork
Millwork is the place where trades meet. A reception desk needs power, data and sometimes a security button. A cabinet run needs plumbing for the sink and an outlet for the coffee machine. A feature wall may hold lighting and a TV.
Because our electrical, mechanical and low voltage crews work with our carpenters, those needs are planned together. Services are roughed in at the right height and location, and the finished piece has the openings it needs. That avoids the familiar situation where a beautiful counter is cut up on site because nobody coordinated the outlets.
What to plan for
Millwork has long lead times and little tolerance for surprises. Shop drawings should be reviewed and approved before fabrication, and site dimensions should be verified after framing and drywall are complete, since walls are rarely exactly where the drawings say.
Materials matter too. Wood, laminate, solid surface and metal each behave differently and cost differently. Edge details, finishes and hardware choices all affect budget and durability.
Finally, think about how the piece will be used. A reception desk in a busy clinic faces more wear than one in a quiet office, and our team will recommend materials suited to the use.
Questions we hear
Does HSM build millwork in-house or order it?
It depends on the piece. Some work is built by our carpenters, and some is made by specialty shops. In both cases our crew installs it and coordinates the trades around it.
