What our interior systems crew does
Our Interior Systems Manager, Brian Wright, brings two decades of experience to the work and leads the crew from layout to final inspection. The same people who frame a wall also board it, tape it and close the ceiling above it.
That continuity matters because interior work sits in the middle of every other trade. Walls cannot close until electrical and mechanical rough-in is inspected, and ceilings cannot go up until the overhead is finished. When HSM's electricians and HVAC and plumbing crews work for the same company as the framers, those handoffs happen on a daily conversation, not a change order.
- Steel stud framing and bulkheads
- Drywall, taping and finishing
- Acoustic and specialty ceilings
- Demountable walls and wall panels
- Insulation, soundproofing and fire-rated assemblies
Why self-performing helps
Most delays in interior work come from trades waiting on each other. A subcontractor arrives, finds the area is not ready, and leaves. The next date may be a week away. With our own crew, the foreman moves people to the next ready area the same day.
Quality control is also simpler. One crew owns the result, so there is nobody to point at when a wall is out of plumb or a ceiling grid is off. We fix it, and we learn from it.
What to plan for
Interior systems depend on early decisions. Fire ratings, sound targets, ceiling heights and wall locations should be settled with our in-house engineering team before framing starts. Changing a rated wall after the board is hung costs time and money.
Lead times matter too. Specialty ceiling products, wall panels and glazed systems can take weeks to arrive, and our project managers order them early so the crew is never waiting on material.
Alberta winters also affect the schedule. Drywall finishing needs a heated, ventilated building, so we plan temporary heat and enclosure early on fall and winter starts.
Questions we hear
Does HSM use subcontractors for interior work?
Framing, drywall, ceilings and related interior systems are done by HSM's own crew. Where a specialty product needs a certified installer, we say so up front.
Can you handle interior work in an occupied building?
Yes. We phase the work, control dust and noise, and schedule loud tasks for off-hours when needed.
