Carpentry and millwork

Finish Carpentry

Finish carpentry is the last pass over the interior, where small details decide how the finished space feels. HSM's own carpenters handle it so nothing is left to chance.

Finish Carpentry

What finish carpentry covers

Finish carpentry includes installing trim and casings, hanging interior doors, fitting hardware, installing millwork components, adjusting cabinet doors and drawers, setting shelves, and making the many small cuts and fits that complete a room. It is the work that connects rough structure to a finished look.

On commercial projects, it also includes protecting finished surfaces and making small repairs to items damaged during construction.

Why it needs experienced hands

Finish work shows mistakes. A door that rubs, a cabinet that does not line up or a trim joint that opens by a few millimetres will be seen every day. Skilled carpenters make small adjustments as they go, using knowledge of how wood, panels and walls behave.

HSM's project managers include a journeyman carpenter, Andreas Farini, and that background influences how we inspect finish quality. Our carpenters also work next to our drywall, painting, doors and electrical crews, so they know what the surfaces and openings should look like before finish work starts.

Sequence matters. Finish carpentry usually follows painting and flooring, but touch-ups must be planned. Our foremen schedule the order to limit damage and rework.

What to plan for

Leave time for finishing. When schedules compress, finish carpentry is often squeezed, and quality drops. A realistic window at the end of the project makes a clear difference.

Plan for clean conditions. Dust from sanding or cutting affects painted and varnished surfaces, so finish carpentry is scheduled after major dusty work and the space is cleaned beforehand.

Walk the project with us before handover. A joint walk-through of finish details lets the client point out preferences, and our crew can adjust on the spot, because the carpenters are still on the team and not scattered across other jobs.
