Carpentry and millwork

Cabinetry

Cabinetry looks simple until it meets plumbing, power and uneven walls. HSM installs it with its own carpenters and coordinates the services around it.

Cabinetry

Commercial cabinetry uses

Cabinets show up in many commercial settings: staff lunchrooms, break areas, clinic treatment rooms, sample rooms, copy rooms, storage and supply closets. Each use has its own needs. A clinic cabinet may need to be cleanable and sealed. A lunchroom needs durable surfaces and room for appliances. A storage room may simply need strong shelving and secure doors.

Construction styles vary. Frameless cabinets give a clean modern look and good use of space. Face-frame cabinets suit traditional designs. Stock cabinets keep cost down, while custom units fit odd spaces and special layouts.

Coordinating the services

The sink is the obvious example. Our mechanical crew, which includes plumbing, sets water and drain rough-ins to match the cabinet layout. Our electricians place outlets above the counter, under the cabinet for dishwashers and in dedicated circuits for microwaves, coffee machines and refrigerators.

This coordination is one of the quieter benefits of self-performing. The plumber and the carpenter know each other's schedule and drawings. Nobody has to notch a finished cabinet because the drain landed in the wrong place.

Walls matter too. Our interior systems team adds blocking behind upper cabinets so they are fixed to solid backing, not just drywall.

What to plan for

Measure after the walls are finished. Cabinet runs are tight, and small errors in framing show up as gaps. Our carpenters scribe cabinets to the wall and level them to the floor so the result looks intentional.

Material decisions affect lifespan. Moisture-resistant panels near sinks, quality hinges and slides in busy kitchens, and durable edge banding are all worth discussing.

Finally, plan for appliances early. Fridge sizes, dishwasher clearances and ventilation needs are easy to coordinate during design and awkward to correct after the cabinets arrive.
