Loading Dock Construction

The loading dock is where a building meets the supply chain. HSM adds and upgrades docks so that trucks load safely, product stays protected, and the building keeps its heat.

Loading Dock Construction

A safe, efficient dock

Docks are among the most hazardous areas in a facility. Trailer creep, uneven heights, poor visibility and gaps between truck and dock cause injuries. Dock levellers, vehicle restraints, bumpers, lights and clear markings all reduce risk, and we help you choose the right combination for your trucks and volumes.

Dock height has to match the trailers you receive. When you handle mixed fleets, levellers with enough range, or drive-in doors alongside traditional docks, give flexibility.

Building changes and services

Adding a dock often means cutting into an existing wall and slab, building a pit for the leveller, and extending apron and paving outside. Concrete work is weather-dependent in Alberta, so winter requires enclosures, heating or scheduling around the season. We plan around that.

Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, brings power to dock equipment, door operators, lighting and signal lights. Our mechanical crew handles heating at the doors, drainage and any required sprinkler or ventilation changes. For temperature-controlled product, we detail seals and vestibules to keep cold chains intact.

What to plan for

Think about truck turning room and yard flow before you commit to a dock location. A beautiful dock that trucks cannot reach is of no use. Snow storage also matters, as piles can block aprons.

Security belongs on the dock plan. Cameras, access control and door monitoring give you a record of who accessed what and when, and our low voltage group installs them with the rest of the work. We aim to keep your existing docks working while the new one is built.

Maintenance and lifespan

Dock equipment sees heavy use. Levellers, seals and door operators need regular inspection and lubrication, and small repairs prevent costly failures. Keep a maintenance record, and train staff to report damage right away.

We can provide ongoing building maintenance to look after docks and doors across the year, including winter checks.
