Why cold buildings are different
A cold room fights moisture constantly. Warm, humid air moves toward cold surfaces, so vapour barriers, sealed penetrations and well-detailed doors are essential. Insulated panel systems are common, and the quality of panel joints, door frames and floor transitions decides how long the room performs.
Floors are a particular concern. In freezers, the ground beneath a slab can freeze and heave unless it is protected with insulation and heat. We account for this in the design and coordinate with your refrigeration supplier.
Mechanical and electrical coordination
Refrigeration equipment, defrost, ventilation, condensate drains and controls all interact. Our mechanical crew handles the ventilation, heating, plumbing and drainage around the system, and we coordinate closely with the refrigeration contractor or equipment supplier on where each piece fits. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, brings the power, controls, alarm and monitoring wiring that keeps temperatures stable.
Backup power deserves a conversation. A long outage can spoil product, so many operators add standby generation or a connection point for a portable unit. We can plan and install it with the electrical service.

What to plan for
Cold rooms often sit inside larger buildings, so the surrounding space needs heating, lighting and fire protection that suit the new load. Food storage may also need health and food safety approvals, which we help you prepare for.
Commissioning takes time. Rooms must be brought down to temperature gradually and tested, so build that into your schedule before product arrives. Alberta's winter air is cold and dry, but summer humidity still stresses poorly sealed rooms.
Energy and operating cost
A cold room runs every hour of the year, so efficiency adds up. Panel thickness, door quality, air curtains, lighting and defrost controls all influence operating cost. We help you weigh the higher upfront cost of better details against savings over the life of the room.
Good documentation and a maintenance plan help keep seals, doors and drains in good condition.
