Warehouse Construction

A warehouse is a simple box with demanding requirements. HSM builds and upgrades warehouses so that racking, equipment and people can move efficiently and safely.

Warehouse Construction

Start with how you store

The storage method drives the building. Pallet racking needs a flat, durable slab and a clear height to match. Higher stacking raises fire protection demands, since sprinkler design depends on what is stored and how high. Automation and conveyors add power and controls.

If you are leasing, check the building against your racking plan before you sign. Slab thickness, sprinkler coverage, electrical capacity and dock count are the items that most often require upgrades.

Systems and trades

Lighting is one of the most visible improvements. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, replaces older fixtures with efficient LED lighting, adds motion controls and installs power for chargers, conveyors and equipment. We also upgrade electrical service where capacity is short.

Our mechanical crew installs heating, makeup air and ventilation suited to Alberta winters, plus plumbing for washrooms and break rooms. Forklift charging areas may need ventilation too. Our low voltage group installs surveillance, access control and network cabling for scanners and wireless coverage.

What to plan for

Offices and staff areas are often added once operations settle. Planning them early lets us place them where they cause the least disruption. Our interior crew can add mezzanine offices, lunchrooms and washrooms using framing, drywall, ceilings and millwork.

Slab work, door openings and dock changes are weather-sensitive in winter. If you need to keep inventory in the building, we phase the work by bay so that product can move. We can also coordinate permits, inspection and fire protection upgrades with the municipality and Safety Codes officers.

Keeping the business running

Most warehouse upgrades happen while stock is in the building. We phase work by bay or zone, protect product and racking, and coordinate electrical shut-downs for off-hours. A written plan agreed before work begins helps your team know where trucks can go and where they cannot.

After handover we can maintain the building for you.
