Banking and finance

Credit Union Construction

Credit unions serve their communities, and their buildings show it. HSM builds branches that feel local, work securely and stay on budget.

Credit Union Construction

A different brand of space

Credit unions often want a warmer, more community-centred feel than a large national bank. That may mean open lounges, meeting rooms for member advice, community boards or flexible rooms for local events. Material choices such as wood, stone or local art help set the tone.

We work with your design team or provide design-build services, so the look you want is priced and checked against the budget from the start.

Security without a fortress feel

Members should see staff and each other, not heavy barriers. Our low voltage team installs cameras, alarms and access control quietly, and our carpenters build counters and partitions that balance openness with protection.

Electrical and mechanical work is done by our own crews. That keeps teller stations, data, lighting and HVAC coordinated, which matters in small buildings where every ceiling space is tight.

Smaller budgets, careful decisions

Many credit unions work to tighter budgets than large banks. Self-performing most of the work helps. With fewer subcontractors, there are fewer markups and less time lost passing work between firms. We can also suggest options, such as phasing a refresh over two stages, so you spend where it counts.

  • Renovations in occupied branches
  • Rural and small-city locations
  • Shared spaces for community use
  • Accessible entrances and counters

Planning ahead

Think about how members will use the branch in ten years. More advice, fewer transactions, and more digital tools are common trends. We can build in conduit and power so the space can adapt later without opening walls. Alberta permits and winter conditions are part of the schedule from day one.

Credit unions often serve more than one community. If you plan several branches, we can apply what we learn on the first to the rest, keeping details consistent and costs predictable. Our project managers Poppy Jameson and Rupinder Kaur have two decades of experience each and are used to guiding boards and committees through approvals.
