Low voltage and security

Nurse Call Systems

Nurse call systems let patients and residents call for help. HSM's own low voltage team installs the wiring and devices, working to the design for your facility.

Nurse Call Systems

A care system

Nurse call connects patient rooms, washrooms and common areas to the staff who respond. It supports safety, response time and dignity. In long term care, retirement living and clinics, it is part of daily operations.

Design requirements depend on the type of facility and the system chosen. Our engineers and the project consultants confirm them, and our team installs to the approved design.

Typical components

  • Bedside and pull-cord stations
  • Washroom call devices
  • Corridor dome lights that show where a call came from
  • Staff stations and display consoles
  • Staff and care team alerts via handsets or pagers
  • Cabling, power supplies and network connections
  • Integration with door and wander management where used

Coordination in healthcare spaces

Care environments are busy and controlled. Work often happens in occupied buildings, with infection control and noise limits. We plan the schedule room by room so resident or patient areas are disrupted as little as possible.

Rough-in must be done before walls close. Boxes, conduit and pathways follow the room layout and bed positions. Our carpenters, electricians and low voltage staff work from the same drawings so devices land where staff can use them.

Testing and reliability

A nurse call system must work every time. Each device is tested after installation, and the full system is tested for call routing and alerts. Backup power is important, and our electricians connect the system to emergency power where the design requires.

Choose a system that can be supported long term. Ask about manufacturer support, software updates and spare parts. Some systems are proprietary, so check who can service them.

Think about growth. Facilities add beds and reconfigure rooms, and the system should handle new devices without a complete redesign.

Training is part of handover. Staff need to know how to receive, cancel and escalate calls. Our team supports ongoing service so repairs are quick. If you are planning a care facility or clinic, speak with us before the lease, since early decisions on layout and services affect the cost.
