The foundation of every network
Wi-Fi gets the attention, but nearly everything in a modern building depends on cable. Desktops, phones, printers, access points, cameras, displays and building controls all connect through it. Good cabling lasts many years, and poor cabling causes problems that are hard to trace.
Cabling is also cheap to install when walls are open, and expensive to add later.
What is included
- Copper cabling to wall outlets and devices
- Fibre optic cabling between rooms and floors
- Network racks, patch panels and cable management
- Cable trays and pathways above ceilings
- Labelling of every cable and port
- Testing and a report for each run
- Firestopping where cables pass through rated walls
Planning your needs
Count the devices you need now and plan for more. Common practice is to install extra ports in each room, and to place outlets where furniture will actually go. Ceiling points for wireless access points, cameras and displays are easy to forget.
The network room needs space, cooling and power. Our mechanical and electrical crews size those with the cabling plan. Heat from network gear in a small closet is a common and avoidable problem.
Installation quality
Cable should be handled carefully, kept away from power lines and supported properly. Bends, tight ties and parallel runs near electrical cables can cause errors. Our team follows industry practice and tests each run to confirm it performs.
Documentation is useful long after we leave. Labelled ports, floor plans and test reports make later changes and troubleshooting faster.
Because HSM manages the whole project, cabling is scheduled after ceiling grid and before final finishes, without tradeoffs between separate vendors. Our low voltage team also installs the equipment that connects to it, from Wi-Fi to cameras. Computer networks are part of our turn-key services, and we can continue to support the network once you move in.
