Buildings for the public
Municipal buildings combine offices, council chambers, counters, meeting rooms and sometimes community space. They need to be welcoming, accessible and easy to find your way around.
We help owners think through public flow, staff areas, security and accessibility so the building is simple for visitors and efficient for staff.
Planning for councils and budgets
Municipal projects follow council approval, budget cycles and sometimes public input. We provide clear scopes, schedules and cost breakdowns that stand up to review. Early involvement, including feasibility and budget advice, helps administrations reach the right decisions before design is set.
Fixed milestones for council meetings and funding are built into the schedule.
Systems and efficiency
Municipal buildings are owned for a long time, so life-cycle costs matter. Efficient HVAC, lighting and controls reduce operating costs. Our mechanical crew installs HVAC and plumbing, and our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, installs lighting, power and emergency systems.
Our in-house engineers, led by Dr. Magdy Istafanous, support design and review.
Staff and services often remain in the building during work. We plan phases, temporary relocations and public access carefully. Counters, council chambers and records areas get special attention for dust, noise and security.
Our Director of Health and Safety, Ghilda Gaber, leads safety planning for sites with staff and public present.
Plan for these items
Municipal owners should think about:
- Public counter and queue layout
- Council chamber audio-visual
- Security and access control
- Accessibility under building code
- Future growth of staff and services
Getting started
Begin with a walk-through of your building and your needs. We can prepare a budget range, a phasing plan and a schedule that fits your council calendar, with our estimators and engineers involved from the beginning.
Questions we hear
Can a town office stay open during renovation?
Usually, with phased work and temporary service areas. We agree on the plan with the owner before work begins.
