Courthouse Renovations

Courthouses have strict security, strong acoustics and busy schedules. HSM renovates them with our own electrical, low voltage and interior crews.

Courthouse Renovations

Secure circulation

Courthouses separate the public, staff, judges and people in custody. Each group needs its own routes, doors and waiting areas, with controlled intersections. Changes to one area can affect the whole security plan.

We work with the owner and security consultants to preserve and improve circulation. Doors and hardware, access control and cameras are installed by our in-house teams so they work together.

Courtroom details

Courtrooms need clear speech, good lighting and reliable recording and presentation systems. Acoustic treatment, ceiling and wall assemblies, millwork and finishes all matter. Our interior systems crew builds framing, drywall and acoustic ceilings, and our carpenters and millwork team build benches, bars, jury boxes and witness stands.

Our Low Voltage Systems Manager, Adam Mason, leads the team installing audio-visual, sound and surveillance systems.

Power and building systems

Courthouses cannot lose power or climate control on a sitting day. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, plans panel upgrades, emergency power and lighting upgrades with minimal outages. Our mechanical crew installs HVAC and plumbing, with ventilation tuned for crowded rooms.

Hearings drive the schedule. Noisy work happens after hours or in closed courtrooms. We phase construction court by court, protect finished areas and keep security intact at every stage.

Older courthouses may have heritage features or hidden conditions. Early investigation reduces surprises.

Plan for these items

Owners usually consider:

  • Number of courtrooms that can close at once
  • Holding cell and secure corridor upgrades
  • Technology for remote hearings
  • Accessibility for the public and staff
  • Evening and weekend work hours

Getting started

Share the court calendar and the areas you plan to renovate. We will propose a phasing plan that protects security and sitting days, with budgets that reflect the real cost of our own trades.
