Many different rooms in one building
A high school may include classrooms, science labs, a library, trades shops, a cafeteria, gymnasiums, a theatre and music rooms. Each has different needs for ventilation, power, sound and finishes.
We plan these spaces together so that the building works as a whole, with dust, noise and fumes managed, and with clear routes for students and deliveries.
Gymnasiums, cafeterias and theatres are large rooms with big ventilation and lighting loads. Having mechanical and electrical done by one company keeps these systems coordinated with the structure and finishes.
Shops, labs and specialty rooms
Trades shops and science labs need serious ventilation, power and sometimes dust collection or fume hoods. Our mechanical crew handles exhaust, make-up air and plumbing, and our Master Electrician-led crew installs panels, disconnects and lighting.
Music and drama rooms need sound isolation and acoustic treatment, and our interior systems team builds walls and ceilings to suit.
Technology and security
Students and teachers depend on networks, displays and AV. Our low voltage team installs data cabling, AV, alarms and cameras, and can supply digital signage for hallways and common areas.
Larger buildings benefit from zoned access control that lets staff lock down or open areas as needed.
Renovations in an operating school
Most secondary school work happens while classes run. Work areas are separated, deliveries are scheduled outside peak hours and dust is controlled. Noisy or disruptive tasks are saved for evenings, weekends and summer.
Our Director of Health & Safety, Ghilda Gaber, leads site safety, which includes keeping students out of work zones.
Planning notes
Plan for approvals, specialty equipment lead times and the school calendar. Cold weather affects exterior work and concrete, so we sequence around it. HSM provides one schedule and one accountable team.
Performance spaces and gyms often need specialty lighting, rigging or sports flooring with long lead times. Ordering these early keeps the summer window intact.
