Safe by design
Children explore everything, so details matter: rounded edges, protected outlets, safe door hardware with finger protection, non-slip floors and fixtures that cannot be pulled down. Hot water temperature at taps needs to be controlled.
Our carpenters, door and hardware crews, and electricians handle these details as a single team.
Daycares also need storage for strollers, coats and boots, which is a practical concern in Alberta winters. Entry vestibules and cubby areas keep the rooms clean and dry.
Layout and supervision
Daycare rooms are usually grouped by age, with infant, toddler and preschool spaces, plus a kitchen, washrooms, sleeping areas, storage and an office. Clear sightlines and windows between rooms help staff supervise.
Child care licensing in Alberta has requirements for space, washrooms and safety, so it helps to confirm them early with the licensing contact.
Secure entries and systems
Pick-up and drop-off need controlled access. Our low voltage team installs door controls, intercoms, cameras and alarms. Fire alarms and emergency lighting are installed by our electricians.
Kitchens and laundry need proper ventilation and plumbing from our mechanical team.
Laundry, bottle prep and kitchen areas should follow the licensing and health guidance that applies to your program, and we build to your approved plans.
Comfort and cleaning
Children spend time on the floor, so floors should be warm and clean. In-floor heating or well-planned HVAC helps. Fresh air matters to keep illness down. Surfaces should be easy to clean, since sanitizing is frequent.
Playground and outdoor access need attention in winter, such as covered entries and safe drop-off.
Planning notes
Check zoning, licensing and landlord rules before leasing. HSM can review a space, estimate the build, and plan the timeline so you can open on the date families expect.
Our own electrical and mechanical crews make it easier to finish quickly once inspections are booked.
