Why lobbies are different
A lobby is small compared with a full floor, but it carries a lot of weight. It has to look sharp, handle heavy foot traffic, and work as a security and reception point. There is little room to hide poor workmanship.
Because lobbies are often used every day, we plan phasing carefully. Where possible, we work around business hours and keep a safe path for staff and visitors.
Finishes, lighting and systems
Our carpenters and millwork crew build reception desks, wall features and trim to fit. Our interior systems team handles framing, drywall and ceilings, including feature ceilings and bulkheads that frame the lighting.
Lighting does a lot in a lobby, and it is an electrical job first. Our electrical team, led by a Master Electrician, installs fixtures, controls and dimming. Our low voltage group can add access control, cameras, audio visual and digital signage so the lobby works as well as it looks.
Our mechanical crew adjusts HVAC and handles any plumbing, such as a nearby washroom or a floor drain at an entrance.
What to plan for
Entrance work in Alberta needs thought about winter. Doors, vestibules and flooring need to handle salt, slush and cold drafts. We help owners pick materials that look good and last.
Long-lead items are common here. Custom millwork, specialty stone, feature lighting and glass can take weeks to arrive, so we order early and schedule around them.
- Durable flooring for salt and moisture
- Vestibule and door hardware choices
- Access control and reception security
- Lead times on feature materials
Doing small spaces well
Smaller scope does not mean less care. Lobby projects tend to involve many trades working in a tight footprint, so sequencing is critical. Electrical rough-in, ceiling framing, millwork and finishes all need to land in the right order.
With our own crews, we control that order. Finishes are installed late and protected well, so the space is handed over clean and ready for visitors.
Questions we hear
Can the lobby stay open during construction?
Often, yes. We phase the work, protect walkways and coordinate with building management so the space stays safe and usable.
