Built for Alberta weather
Edmonton and area see hard winters, freeze-thaw cycles, wind and summer heat. Exterior materials and details need to handle all of it. We look at drainage, flashing, thermal breaks and sealants carefully, because small failures let water in and cause larger damage over time.
Exterior projects often begin with an inspection. We look for failed sealants, water damage, rot, corrosion and settlement, and we document what we find with photos. That gives you a clear picture of what needs repair now, what can wait, and what a full renovation would involve. Honest condition information also helps if a landlord or lender is sharing the cost.

What HSM does itself
Exterior work is a mix of our own trades and specialists. Our electricians, led by a Master Electrician, install lighting, signage power, car chargers and entrance controls. Our doors and hardware crew handles entrances and access hardware, and our low voltage team installs cameras and access control. Our carpenters and painters do framing, trim and finishes.
Where a scope needs a specialist, such as glazing systems, roofing or masonry, we manage a qualified subcontractor within our own schedule.
Seasonal planning
Many exterior products have temperature limits for installation. Sealants, paint and some membranes need specific conditions. We plan the sequence so weather-sensitive work lands in suitable months, and we use temporary protection when winter work cannot wait. This is a normal part of planning in Alberta, not a surprise.
What to plan for
Exterior changes often need a development permit as well as a building permit, and may require landlord approval. Signage rules vary by municipality. Start approvals early, and keep customers safe with clear access during the work.
