Lighting that flatters
Colour matters in apparel. Poor lighting can make fabrics look flat or the wrong shade. Retailers often use a mix of ambient, track and accent lighting, plus mirror lighting in the fitting rooms.
Our Master Electrician-led crew installs and aims the lighting, and sets up controls. We coordinate placement with the ceiling and fixture layout so the final look matches the design.
Fitting rooms and back of house
Fitting rooms need privacy, solid partitions, good doors, mirrors and lighting. Our framing, drywall and carpentry crews build them, along with cash wraps, wall displays and stockroom shelving.
Back-of-house areas include storage, a steam or receiving area, a staff room and security. Our low voltage team installs cameras, alarms and security tag systems, and our mechanical team provides ventilation and plumbing.
Flexible fixtures
Apparel stores change displays often. Walls with slat panels, standard backing for fixtures and plenty of floor power let staff reconfigure the store without calling a contractor.
We build blocking and backing into walls so fixtures can be mounted where needed, and install power and data in floors and walls to match the layout.
Moving fast between collections
Apparel retailers run on seasons, so opening dates are firm. We schedule fixture delivery, lighting and finishes to land together, and our own crews can work extra shifts to finish ahead of a launch.
Renovations can often be done in stages, with part of the store open while another part is rebuilt, though this depends on landlord rules and safety.
Plan for these items
Several items deserve attention early:
- Mall or landlord criteria for storefront and signage
- Floor finish choices that hold up to foot traffic and winter salt
- Heating at entrances and in fitting rooms
- Seasonal timing, since many retailers open ahead of spring or fall collections
- Security tag systems and camera coverage
