Scale and flexibility
Exhibit halls, ballrooms and breakout rooms all share one building but have different needs. Floor loading, floor boxes for power and data, ceiling heights and rigging points all need to be planned. So does the way rooms combine and separate, since sound travelling between adjacent events is a constant complaint.
Our work typically focuses on tenant improvements, expansions and renovations within a budget of $50,000,000 or less, such as upgrading a ballroom, adding meeting suites, or modernizing public areas and back-of-house space.
Systems that carry the building
Convention spaces draw heavily on electrical and mechanical systems. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, installs distribution, floor power, lighting controls and emergency systems. Our mechanical crew handles air handling, ventilation and plumbing for washrooms, concessions and catering areas. Because the crews are ours, shut-downs can be scheduled tightly around your event calendar.
Low voltage is just as important. Our Low Voltage Systems Manager, Adam Mason, leads the team that installs structured cabling, wireless coverage, audio visual, sound masking, alarms and surveillance.
Working around your calendar
Event calendars are booked months ahead, so construction windows are short and fixed. We build the schedule around your bookings, identify long-lead items early, and stage work so that noisy and dusty tasks happen between events.
Plan for loading, staging and delivery access during construction, because exhibitors and caterers still need to get in and out. Also plan for temporary life safety measures if exits or alarm zones are affected. We coordinate these with the authority having jurisdiction.

Keeping events on track
The most useful thing we can do for a convention centre is to keep the calendar intact. That takes early planning of shut-downs, temporary power and ventilation, and clear lines of communication with your events team.
Having electrical, mechanical, interior and low voltage crews of our own means fewer outside parties to schedule, and a faster response if an issue appears the night before an event.
