Structure and weather
Canopies carry wind and, in Alberta, significant snow loads, and they cover a classified area where fuel vapours may be present. The columns, beams and roof must be engineered to suit local loads and meet code. Column placement also affects traffic flow and fuel truck access, so the layout should be reviewed with your fuel supplier.
Footings are poured in frost-prone ground, so depth and protection matter. Winter pours need heating and careful scheduling, and we plan for them early.
Electrical and finishes
Much of a canopy is electrical. Our electrical crew, led by a Master Electrician, installs lighting, pump power, controls, emergency shut-off wiring and signage connections, using methods suited to the hazardous-area classification near dispensers. LED lighting gives even, bright coverage with lower energy use and better visibility for customers and cameras.
Our carpenters, painters and finishers handle fascia, cladding and brand colours. Our low voltage group adds surveillance cameras, speakers, price signage and payment connections. Where a canopy is part of an EV charging site or solar installation, we integrate the electrical work.

What to plan for
Renovations, such as replacing a canopy or re-lighting it, must usually keep fuel sales going. We stage the work by island, close dispensers one section at a time, and protect the public with barriers and clear signage.
Brand programs often prescribe the look, so share them with us at the start. Approvals include development and building permits plus Safety Codes electrical permits, and long-lead items like steel, cladding and signage should be ordered early to keep the schedule.
Lifespan and upkeep
A well-built canopy should last for decades, but lighting, fascia and paint need periodic attention. LED lighting reduces maintenance visits, and durable cladding keeps the canopy looking sharp. Plan for regular inspections of fixings, drainage and lighting.
We can assist with ongoing building maintenance so small issues are caught early.
