What it means
Millwork is usually designed, detailed and fabricated off site or in a shop, then installed on site. Materials include solid wood, veneers, laminates, solid surface and metal accents. Because it is made to measure, it depends on accurate field dimensions.
Shop drawings are reviewed and approved before fabrication begins.
Why it matters
Millwork is often the part of an interior that clients and visitors notice most, and it is one of the places where schedule risk sits. Custom work takes time to design, approve, build and finish. If walls or floors are not ready when the millwork arrives, installation stalls.
It also has to coordinate with power, data and plumbing, such as outlets in a reception desk or a sink in a coffee counter.
How HSM handles it
HSM has its own carpentry and millwork capability, including carpenters on staff and project managers with trade backgrounds. We field measure, prepare shop drawings, and install the finished pieces, with our electricians and low voltage team providing outlets, data and lighting inside them.
Because carpentry, electrical and finishing trades are under one schedule, we can plan millwork so that rough-ins land in the right place before it arrives. We also protect finished pieces from dust and damage while other work continues.
What to plan for
Make selections early. Veneer, laminate and finish choices drive lead time, and changes after fabrication starts are costly.
Walk the site with us once rough framing is up to confirm dimensions. Millwork is made to measure, and a few centimetres can matter.
