What it means
The list is made by walking the space with the owner, designer and contractor. Typical items include paint touch-ups, damaged finishes, a door that does not latch, a missing cover plate or a light that does not work. Each item is recorded with a location and an owner responsible for fixing it.
The list is checked off as items are completed.
Why it matters
The punch list sits between substantial completion and final payment, and it often controls the release of the last part of the contract value. A vague or endless list drags out close-out for everyone.
A good one is specific, agreed by all parties, and closed on a schedule.
How HSM handles it
HSM walks the space ahead of the formal inspection and builds its own list first, so most items are fixed before you arrive. Because our own trades did the electrical, mechanical, drywall, carpentry, painting and door work, the people who made the item are the ones who correct it, and they are still close by.
We give each item a date, report on progress, and invite you to confirm closure instead of assuming it.
Our goal is a punch list that is short, clear and finished quickly.
What to plan for
Plan to be present for the walkthrough, and bring anyone who will use or maintain the space. Note items as you see them in the first weeks of occupancy, and send them to us in one list so we can schedule the work and limit disruption.
