UPS Room Construction

A UPS room keeps critical systems running when the grid fails. HSM builds these rooms with our own electrical and mechanical crews.

UPS Room Construction

Backup power needs the right room

Uninterruptible power supply systems include inverters, switchgear, batteries and distribution. They are heavy, produce heat and may need ventilation to manage battery gases. Rooms must have strong floors, clearances for service and clean, dry conditions.

Battery type affects the design. Some require exhaust ventilation, spill protection and eyewash facilities. Others have different requirements. We follow the equipment supplier's instructions and the applicable codes.

Electrical and mechanical work

Our electrical crew, led by Master Electrician Adam Williams, installs feeders, switchgear, bypass paths and distribution, and works with the UPS supplier through commissioning. Our mechanical crew installs ventilation and cooling, since UPS equipment and batteries perform best in a steady temperature range.

Our interior systems team builds fire-rated walls where required. Our low voltage team adds monitoring, access control and alarms.

Delivery and installation

Equipment is heavy and awkward. Planning the delivery path, door sizes, hoisting and floor protection is part of the job. Retrofits in existing buildings often require removing walls or using cranes. We take care of these logistics.

Planning outages

Connecting a UPS to a live building takes a planned shutdown. We work with your operations team to build a step-by-step plan and keep the outage short. Testing and training come before handover.

Backup power systems only matter if they work on the worst day. After installation we support start-up and testing, and we document breaker settings, cable routes and room conditions. Our electrical crew can return for maintenance upgrades, battery room changes or future capacity increases, since the same people know how the room was built.

Safety around batteries and high-capacity electrical gear is not optional. Our health and safety program, led by Ghilda Gaber, covers lockout procedures, arc-flash awareness and safe handling of heavy equipment. We apply those standards on every UPS project, and we coordinate with the supplier's technicians during start-up.
