A specialized scope
Medical gas piping is a life-safety system. It is installed to specific standards for materials, cleanliness, labelling and testing. Not every plumbing crew is qualified to do it, and installers generally must hold the required training and certification.
We confirm the exact requirements for each project at the start, including who is qualified to install and who must verify. Where a project needs specialist verification by an independent party, we schedule it into the program.
Where it is used
- Hospitals and clinics
- Dental offices, with vacuum, air and sometimes nitrous oxide
- Veterinary clinics
- Surgical and treatment rooms
- Labs with specialty gas needs
- Long term care and rehabilitation facilities
What the work involves
Pipe is cleaned and capped for medical use. Joints are made in a controlled way, usually with inert gas purging inside the pipe. Outlets, valve boxes, alarm panels and source equipment are installed and labelled. The system is pressure tested and then verified for cross-connection and gas purity before use.
Coordination is heavy. Walls need blocking, ceilings need room, and boxes need power for alarms. Our electricians wire alarm panels, and our framers and drywall crews prepare the walls.
Planning and schedule
Medical gas often sits on the critical path. Source equipment can take time to deliver, and verification cannot happen until the system is complete and other trades are finished. Decide early on the locations of outlets, as moving them later means opening finished walls.
Healthcare spaces carry other requirements too: infection control during construction, specialty ventilation and clean finishes. Our team plans these as part of the healthcare scope, not as afterthoughts.
If you are considering a new clinic or dental office, call us before you lease. We can look at the space, the existing services and what the medical gas and equipment will need, and give you realistic information on cost and time.
