Why retrofit
LEDs use far less power than fluorescent and older high-intensity discharge lighting. They also last longer, which means fewer lamp changes and less maintenance. In buildings with long operating hours, the savings add up.
The size of the saving depends on the existing system, the hours of use and your electricity rates, so we look at the actual building before promising anything.
Retrofit options
There are several ways to convert a system, each with trade-offs:
- Replacing whole fixtures with new LED fixtures, which gives the best control over light quality and warranty
- Retrofit kits that reuse the existing housing, which costs less and creates less waste
- LED tube replacements, which are quick but depend on the condition of the old fixtures
- Adding sensors and controls at the same time to save more energy
How we run the work
We start with a walk-through and a count of fixtures, ceiling types and conditions. We then recommend a plan and phase the work so your business keeps running. Offices can be done floor by floor, and warehouses and parking areas can be done in zones.
Evening and weekend work is common. Our crew protects furniture and equipment, cleans up each shift and disposes of old lamps and ballasts properly. Some older lighting components need special handling, and we follow the applicable Alberta requirements.
What to consider
Light level and colour matter. An LED that is too harsh or too dim will bother people more than the old fixture did. We can sample fixtures in place before a full order.
Check whether your utility or a provincial program offers incentives. Programs change, so we do not quote amounts, but we can help you document the work. Because the same electricians handle your maintenance and any later tenant improvements, they know what is installed above the ceiling.
Where a retrofit uncovers old wiring in poor shape, we tell you before work continues, with options and costs.
Questions we hear
Will an LED retrofit shut down my business?
Usually not. We phase the work by area and often work outside business hours so operations continue.
