Know what you need first
Chargers come in different power levels. Basic Level 2 chargers suit workplaces and overnight parking. DC fast chargers need much more power and serious infrastructure. The right choice depends on how long vehicles stay and how many you expect to charge.
We help you size a system for today and leave room for more stalls tomorrow.
Power and load management
Charging adds a big load. A building that was fine before may need a service upgrade or a panel addition. Our engineers run the load calculation and look at options such as load management, which shares available power between chargers so the building does not need as much new capacity.
Utility involvement may be needed for larger installations. We raise this early because utility timelines are often the longest part of the schedule.
What the installation includes
- Dedicated circuits and breakers or a new distribution panel
- Conduit and cable runs, including trenching and concrete work where lots are involved
- Mounting of charging stations, wall or pedestal
- Network connection for chargers that need data
- Signage, bollards and wheel stops by coordination with our carpentry and site crews
- Permits and inspection under Alberta's Safety Codes system
Winter and site conditions
Alberta winters affect outdoor installations. Conduit needs to be buried at suitable depth, equipment rated for cold, and cable protected. Snow clearing, drainage and lighting around the stalls are part of the plan.
We install in parking structures, surface lots and underground levels. Each has its own challenges, from core drilling to ventilation to fire separation.
Since electrical is self-performed, one crew handles design input, trenching coordination, wiring and testing. Charger hardware choices are yours, and we can wire for the common networked brands. Pay and access systems, if you want to bill users, are set up with our low voltage team.
Questions we hear
Can my building support EV chargers?
It depends on the spare capacity of your service and panels. We run a load calculation and recommend whether you need an upgrade or load management.
